(at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor)
Description:
To be eligible for a status-only appointment, the individual must hold full-time employment arrangements with another institution and have a job description that is primarily academic (research and teaching) in nature. Most often, status-only appointments are granted to employees of affiliated hospitals or research institutions, or faculty at other universities. Status-only appointments are non-salaried and generally receive no remuneration from the University of Toronto.
Duration:
These appointments must be for a fixed term, usually one to three years. Terms longer than three years, but not more than five years, may be considered on a case by case basis. Where possible, they should end on June 30th. An activity report is to be submitted to the Department Chair on an annual basis.
Approval:
(DAC or SC) – Dept Chair – HR – FAAC – Dean
If a search was conducted, approval by FAAC is not required.
Status-only appointments at the rank of Full Professor also require approval of the Provost.
Available Rank:
Assistant Professor
(Under University Academic Policies, a change in rank from Lecturer to Assistant Professor is NOT a promotion, it is a new appointment.)
^ If the candidate has a PhD Scientist designation this letter must come from the appropriate individual at the hospital or reserach institution where the scientist is employed, usually the VP of Research. The letter must state that the hospital or institution will provide salary and lab facilities for the duration of the academic appointment. "PhD Scientist" is a specific type of status-only appointment designed to identify status-only faculty who hold a PhD (or equivalent) and are employed in a research/scientist role on a full-time basis at an affiliated hospital or research institute.
