Rehabilitation Sciences Sector: Status-Only at the rank of Lecturer

Description: Some departments within the Faculty of Medicine, such as the Rehabilitation Sciences Sector, offer Status-only appointments at the rank of Lecturer.  Such appointments are made to individuals who generally have not completed their PhD but have the necessary academic background to participate in a department's teaching or occasionally research activities.  To be eligible for a status-only appointment, the individual must normally hold full-time employment with another institution or another department of the University, and have a job description that is primarily academic (research and teaching) in nature.  In certain circumstances, an individual who works part-time at an affiliated site can be awarded an academic appointment. Within the Rehabilitation Sector, the majority of status-only appointments are clinical rehabilitation professionals employed by one of the University’s Full or Community-Affiliated Sites, whose primary role is to provide clinical teaching.

For further information regarding the Rehabilitation Sciences Sector please refer to the Sector Guidelines.

Duration:  These appointments are fixed term appointments of 3 years.  Where possible, they should end on June 30th.  Activity reports are to be submitted to the Department Chair on an annual basis.

Available Rank:  Lecturer.  Persons appointed at the rank of Lecturer cannot be considered for promotion; a change to a higher rank requires applying for a new appointment.  For applications to a professorial rank, please contact the Department directly.

Initial Status-Only Academic Appointment:

Candidates who currently do not hold an active academic appointment with one of the Rehabilitation Sciences Sector Departments may submit a request for an initial academic appointment.  A complete application consists of four (4) parts: an online Application Form, Curriculum Vitae, a Rehabilitation Sciences Departmental Contributions Report that outlines the candidate's clinical and academic activities over the past three (3) years, and letters of reference. The submission of 2-3 reference letters will occur at a later date in the process and instructions on how to submit these letters is sent via email.  Criteria for an appointment can be found within the Sector Guidelines.
