Status Only Appointments

(at the rank of Lecturer)


Some departments within the Temerty Faculty of Medicine (for example, Rehabilitation Sciences, Psychiatry, Family and Community Medicine, Molecular Genetics) offer status-only appointments at the level of Lecturer.  Such appointments are made to individuals who generally have not completed their PhD but have the necessary academic background to participate in a department's teaching or occasionally research activities.  To be eligible for a status-only appointment, the individual must hold full-time employment with another institution, and have a job description that is primarily academic (research and teaching) in nature.  Persons appointed at the rank of Lecturer cannot be considered for promotion; a change to a higher rank requires applying for a new appointment.  Individuals may have status-only appointments in multiple departments but one must be designated as the primary.


These appointments must be for a fixed term, usually one to five years.  Where possible, they should end on June 30th.  An activity report is to be submitted to the Department Chair on an annual basis.
